Super Start
Coach Every's classes are off to a fantastic start of the 2012-2013 school year. This trimester I have Alpha classes once a week, Junior K classes twice a week and all other grades four times a week. My LD classes are currently Conroy(1/3 Minke), Hawley, Graham(1/3 of Deegan, Hensler(1/3 of Hobbs), and the boys of Cameron and Tucker. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the new faces in the lower division and EC classes and reconnecting with my previous students. It has been quite a while since we have had such a wet beginning to the school year. The PE staff has had to be very flexible with our plans due to the wet conditions around our campus. Despite the adversity we have a great amount of fun in class and in our new athletic center. Coach Every's PE classes will begin playing in our kickball / softball unit. Our K and 1st grade students will play various lead-up games focused on kicking, base running and rules of the game. Our 2nd - 4th graders will begin real kickball this week. Fielding, positioning, base-running and teamwork will be in constant focus throughout the week. As we head into next week our older students will begin working with baseball gloves and hitting from a tee. Third and fourth graders make take a small break in our kickball unit in order to post the first of three rounds of the Presidential Fitness Challenge. I look forward to the fantastic year ahead.

Proper grip, stance, ball position and aim/alignment are just some of the skills taught throughout the week. We use the S.N.A.G. golf program. The system consists of over-sized plastic golf clubs, tennis-type balls and Velcro targets. It provides a great introduction to golf and good practice for more advanced golfers.

Fitness Testing Finale
Coach Every's 3rd and 4th grade students will complete the final round of The President's Fitness Challenge. My third graders will run the mile on Tuesday during their long period and the fourth grade girls on Wednesday. It is very important to stay hydrated, wear athletic shoes and eat a light snack, as opposed to a heavy lunch, prior to running. This is especially important for the fourth graders. My younger students will participate in a jump rope unit focusing on coordination and cardiovascular endurance. We look forward to a great week ahead in physical education.

4-Square Time
I am so excited to begin our third trimester with my new classes. Coach Every’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students will learn and play the game of 4 – Square. We will learn all the skills and tactics involved within this great playground game. Anticipation, reaction, footwork and tracking are just some of the skills reinforced during a 4-Square game. Another integral component to the game is the adherence to all the rules and conflict resolution. Our students learn strategies that help them referee their own games democratically and fairly.
Our Kindergarten and First Grade students will learn the basics of 4-Square, serving and returning. They will also head back into the Mini-Gym to work on motor development skills. Throwing and tossing will be a constant focus throughout the week.

Chilli Start to the New Year 1/3/12
I truly hope you all had a wonderful winter break. I had a great time taking it easy with my family here in good old St. Pete. Wow we finally received that cold weather we've all been hearing about! Due to this cold weather, we plan to use our indoor spaces for at least Tuesday and Wednesday. We will get the students moving and active through group games in the Rec Gym. Coach Every's classes will begin our kickball unit at the end of this week or at the start of next week. Here's to a great New Year!
