Breaking in the Athletic Center

We have an exciting week ahead of us at Shorecrest. Friday is the Fall Festival and one of the best days of the year at school. Now that the gym is open we plan on playing different group games in brand new practice gym this week. Halloween themed games are in the forecast.

* Please note that since we are able to use our brand new Athletic Center each child participating in PE or after school activities must wear non-marking athletic shoes as to not damage the flooring.

Lacrosse Continued

Coach Every's classes will continue their lacrosse unit by practicing skills and playing modified games. Cradling, scooping, throwing and catching have been focused on in each class. The fourth grade boys will spend time this week competing in the Punt, Pass, and Kick Challenge. This challenge combines the distances that the football travels in the air in all three skills to determine the two finalists. This fun challenge is a yearly tradition for 4th grade and up. The two finalists will participate in the Punt, Pass, and Kick finals at half-time of a varsity football game.

Lacrosse

We will now actually begin our lacrosse unit. We had to push back this unit due to unpredictable and wet weather we experienced a couple of weeks ago. Lacrosse is also know as (LAX). K-4th Grade students will gain experience using the Lacrosse stick, cradling, scooping and passing. 2nd - 4th grade students will also play non-contact games focused on teamwork and strategy. Did you know that the game of Lacrosse was originally played by Native Americans? We look forward to a fun week ahead.

Hip to be Square - 4-Square that is...

Our Lacrosse unit will be postponed until next week. Coach Every’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students will learn and play the game of 4 – Square. We will learn all the skills and tactics involved within this great playground game. Anticipation, reaction, footwork and tracking are just some of the skills reinforced during a 4-Square game. Another integral component to the game is the adherence to all the rules and conflict resolution. Our students learn strategies that help them referee their own games democratically and fairly.

Our Kindergarten and First Grade students will learn the basics of 4-Square, serving and returning. They will also head back into the Mini-Gym to work on another round of our motor development program. Throwing and tossing will be a constant focus throughout the week.
