4-Square

Coach Every’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students will learn and play the game of 4 – Square. We will learn all the skills and tactics involved within this great playground game. Anticipation, reaction, footwork and tracking are just some of the skills reinforced during a 4-Square game. Another integral component to the game is the adherence to all the rules and conflict resolution. Our students learn strategies that help them referee their own games democratically and fairly.

Our Kindergarten and First Grade students will learn the basics of 4-Square, serving and returning. They will also head back into the Mini-Gym to work on another round of our motor development program. Throwing and tossing will be a constant focus throughout the week.

This trimester Coach Every will be working with the students from Mrs. Minke, Ms. Hawley / Densa, Mrs. Graham / Deegan, Mrs. Hensler / Wolfrath, and the boys from Ms. Lemon and Mrs. Cameron. Coach Every's new classes will begin our golf unit. We will focus primarily on the fundamentals of putting and chipping. Proper grip, stance, ball position and aim are just some of the skills taught throughout the week. We use the S.N.A.G. golf program. The system consists of over-sized plastic golf clubs, tennis-type balls and Velcro targets. It provides a great introduction to golf and good practice for more advanced golfers. We look forward to beginning the second trimester, a great week ahead and to Thanksgiving Break next week.

Breaking in the Athletic Center

We have an exciting week ahead of us at Shorecrest. Friday is the Fall Festival and one of the best days of the year at school. Now that the gym is open we plan on playing different group games in brand new practice gym this week. Halloween themed games are in the forecast.

* Please note that since we are able to use our brand new Athletic Center each child participating in PE or after school activities must wear non-marking athletic shoes as to not damage the flooring.

The two finalists will participate in the Punt, Pass, and Kick finals at half-time of a varsity football game.

S.N.A.G. Golf in PE

Students will participate in the S.N.A.G. golf program this week in Coach Every’s PE classes. SNAG is an acronym for (Starting New At Golf) it also refers to the Velcro targets and felt tennis balls used for the program. The putters called Rollers are made of plastic and are much larger than a normal putter. The only other club the students will be using is called the Launcher, the equivalent of a pitching wedge but it is much lighter and larger. The unit will consists of putting and chipping lessons for the younger students and our 4th graders will add on the skills of pitching, the full swing and play out a few holes using the SNAG targets on our field. This unit is always exciting for our students and provides a great introduction to game as well as reinforcing the fundamentals of real golf. This week is sure to be a hole-in-one!
